BEST OPENING LINES:-IN MY VIEW

1. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way . . .

Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich by William L. Shirer

"A thousand years will pass and the guilt of Germany will not be erased."
Hans frank, Governor-General of Poland, before he was hanged at Nuremberg.

William L.Shirer was a foreign correspondent. He was correspondent in Germany for Chicago Tribune and Columbia Broadcasting Service. He was there from 1926 to 1941.He was one of last foreign correspondents to leave Germany. This book traces the rise of Nazi party under Hitler. It chronicles the humble beginnings of both Nazi party and Hitler. The book greatest strength is descriptions of every important event in those years in great detail. Major events of war have been covered and the political rise of Nazi party as well of Nazi Germany is covered. It describes in minute details the life in Nazi Germany. This book is fair to both sides. What Nazis did to jews was deplorable, But u feel sad reading the march and ultimately capture of Berlin by Red army. In this book every individual has been described who played a part in those black years. This book is meticulously researched. It is not just history but it feels more like thriller. It is must read by everyone interested in history. This is how history books should be written. It is a very mature and well-grounded book. It is a very large book with 1356 pages. The writing is good, easy and fast paced. One of best books I have ever read. I will it 4.8/5.
